The Zen of Cutting Grass

The air is cooler today
A sign of the change in seasons
and life

Pace by pace I push
Drawing the lines in the grass
and in my train of thought

It’s more than just a chore
A chance to breathe
and lose myself in the monotony

He’s moving to second grade now
The little child is gone
A young boy
Mowing his own path

The snap of the branches catch my attention
Finding themselves under the spinning blade
Now only pieces of what they were

Push me again dad
Higher
Lets spin on the merry-go-round
Faster

The lines become my memories
As I walk again through the seasons
through the moments now behind me

There’s beauty in the fresh cut
And a sense of knowing
There’s more to come
There’s more to come
