Ideas Ship Too

This is a follow-up to my post from yesterday with a few more thoughts on getting things out into the world.

You may have an active and vocal social media following that will respond to your ideas. You may have many opportunities to speak to audiences. Or, if you’re like me, you may feel like the only people that ever hear your opinions are the few trusted people that you are close with.

There is nothing inherently wrong with reserving your opinions for your closest friends and family. But there is the danger that you are not getting the honest feedback on your ideas from the people who love you that will sharpen your intellect.

On the grandest level, In order to become a thought leader in your field, it is critical to surround yourself with people who will challenge your thinking. This is one of the points Ray Dalio returns to the most in Principles, and for good reason. But even on the most micro level, in order to change the way you think, you won’t change your mind unless you put your ideas out and accept feedback about them.

You have to say something. Voice your opinion. If nothing else, do it to take control of what affect you will have on others. But more on that later.
