My Passion

As early as I can remember, I have always wanted to work with children and help them in any possible way. Whether it was teaching girls a dance on my drill team or babysitting my cousins, I was always drawn to guiding others. When I went to college and started to take classes related to teaching, my love for it only grew more. In college, I was a student teacher for a semester, and will soon be an intern at the Boys & Girls Club of Lubbock this upcoming spring. This club consists of being a postive role model to underprivileged students as well as providing a safe place for students to go after school. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about, and I would love to continue to utilize this passion at Ionian Village. I feel like with the knowledge and skills I have learned from studying to become a teacher, I will be able to make campers feel loved and cared for just like I would with my own future students. This opportunity will give me the chance to help campers with whatever they need, and give them someone that they know they can depend on. I believe that encouraging others and letting them know that anything is achievable is something that I can implement into the camp. As a young camper going to my first Greek retreat, I remember how scary and intimidating it was to be in a new place where I didn’t know anyone. People can be mean and a person can be left feeling homesick. With this being said, I would want to make campers at Ionian Village feel included and ultimately understood. Hopefully they will discover the same geniune joy and life changing expierences that I did when I went to IV.
